Only 132 of the more than 200 signatures on a petition that had been presented to the Cokato City Council could be verified as those of registered voters in the city. City officials say because the state required number of verifiable signatures was not met, the wet vs. dry question will not be on the November ballot in the city. |

President Makes Impromptu Stop in Monticello
President George W. Bush reportedly made a brief, unscheduled stop in Monticello Thursday as his campaign bus motorcade made its way through the community following a visit to St. Cloud, and on the way to a stop in Blaine. The president's motorcade was traveling from I-94 to Highway 10 when it made a brief stop in the city for handshaking. Traffic was blocked off until the motorcade cleared the area. President Bush made three campaign stops in the state on Thursday. Minnesota is considered a toss up state despite its long traditions of supporting Democrats. Some political analysts have suggested the Bush campaign is keeping the pressure on in Minnesota because they feel they have a chance to win the state's electoral votes, and that challenger John Kerry has little chance of winning the election without carrying states like Minnesota. |

Rocori High School Marks 1 Year Anniversary of Fatal Shootings
Students, administration and faculty at Rocori High School in Cold Spring mark the first anniversary today of the tragic school shootings that claimed two lives. Students will be at school today, though most classes will be suspended to mark the one-year anniversary of the shootings that claimed the lives of Aaron Rollins and Seth Barthel. Fellow student Jason McLaughlin is charged with the shooting deaths, and has been found competent to stand trial as an adult. The district has planned a theme for the day entitled Life is a Celebration. School officials hope to provide a positive message of hope despite the tragic events of a year ago. Educators say the theme will be consistent with the thought behind the recently dedicated memorial at Rocori High School. Some of the events planned for the day include special motivational speakers, a quiet picnic-style lunch, a moment of silence marking the exact moment of the shootings and a district-wide balloon release. |
