Environmental Review for Proposed Ethanol Plant
A public meeting will be held next month to review the environmental implications of a proposed ethanol plant in Atwater. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet regarding the proposed Bushmills Ethanol Plant, which is proposed for construction a mile west of Atwater on Highway 12. The documents are open for public review and comment through September 30th. Bushmills Ethanol plans to build a facility that will produce close to 50 million gallons of ethyl alcohol per year, along with some 175 thousand tons of dried distiller's grains. The alcohol would be used in motor vehicle fuel, while the dried grains would be reserved for animal feed. Estimates indicate the plant could utilize close to 18 million bushels of corn annually. The public meeting to review the EAW on the plant is scheduled for September 15th at the Atwater Community Center from 7 to 9 PM. |

MN Secretary of State Announces Expanded On-Line Personal Ballot
Minnesota Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer has announced the expansion of a personalized on-line listing of candidates appearing on the election ballots this fall. Though Wright County has few, if any, primary races to watch, the information could be very helpful for voters for the general election. To access the personalized on-line ballot list, Minnesotans should log onto the Secretary of State's web site at www.sos.state.mn.us, then click on Find Your Polling Place, enter your personal address information, then click on the Candidates on Your Ballot icon. Secretary of State Kiffmeyer says her hope is that the on-line tool will help to make more information available to citizens to help them be confident and informed about their vote on election day. |

More Cable Median Barrier Work on I-94
More cable median barrier work is slated to begin today on I-94 in our region. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that one lane of the freeway in each direction will be closed during off-peak hours starting today from Weaver Lake Road in Maple Grove to the Crow River in Rogers. Work will begin on installation of more segments of cable median barrier, a high-strength, flexible cable that catches vehicles in the median, and helps to prevent head-on crashes when vehicles cross through the median into the on-coming traffic lanes. A cluster of recent cross-median crashes on sections of I-94 have prompted the DOT to install the cable barriers. Work was recently completed on other sections of the barrier in Wright and eastern Stearns counties. The entire project is expected to be completed by October. |
