Annandale / Maple Lake to Appeal County Planners Provisions on Wastewater Plant
The cities of Annandale and Maple Lake say they plan to appeal a Wright County Planning Commission decision to add conditions to the construction of a joint wastewater treatment facility to serve both communities. County Planners recently gave the go-ahead on the construction of the facility in Albion Township, but with the provision that the treated effluent be piped to the north fork of the Crow River, instead of the initial plan to discharge into wetlands which would then disperse the flow south to the river. Officials with the cities say they are not convinced there is justification for the change which they say will add about 2 million dollars onto the cost of the construction. Property owners in the area however say that the original plan could flood farmlands and roadways. |

Crash on I-94 Tuesday Claims Life of Rogers Woman
A 38-year-old woman from Rogers died early Tuesday morning when a westbound semitrailer truck went out of control, crossed the median, and crashed into the woman's on-coming mini-van. The State Patrol says Catherine Dahl died at the scene of the crash on eastbound I-94 near 101st Street in Maple Grove. Authorities say the driver of the truck was avoiding a MN Dot truck when he lost control. The truck driver was not injured. A passenger in the truck was treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital. The crash forced the closure of eastbound I-94 for more than 3 hours Tuesday morning. Ironically, D.O.T. officials say the crash happened along an area where they plan to construct a cable fence in the median area to prevent such crashes. A similar crash in late December only a few miles from the site of Tuesday's crash claimed the life of 18-year-old Matthew Wilson of Monticello. |

Hearing on Restraining Order Extension for Brian Guimond Continued to May
A Wright County man who is the father of a missing Minnesota college student says he hopes to be able to reach a compromise with St. John's University at Collegeville which recently banned him from unsupervised visits to the campus. The college had asked for a 2-year extension of the restraining order against Brian Guimond of Maple Lake, the father of Josh Guimond, a St. John's student who went missing without a trace some 16 months ago. In the month's since the young man's disappearance, numerous searches of the campus, its lakes, fields, swamps and many buildings have been conducted, but have turned up nothing. After Stearns County Sheriff's Department officials suspended the search, Brian Guimond took on the investigation himself, to the point of harassment of students and campus security personnel according to St. John's University officials. Guimond claims he is simply doing what he feels needs to be done to be sure that the search for Josh is not forgotten. A hearing in Stearns County on Wednesday was continued to May 14th after Brian Guimond's new attorney requested time to review the case. |
