Big Lake Man Injured in Car/Snowmobile Crash
Sherburne County Sheriff's Department officials say a Big Lake man was seriously injured when his snowmobile collided with a car Tuesday afternoon. 37-year-old Brian Ross was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital after the snowmobile he was riding westbound on 235th Avenue at the intersection of Sherburne County road 5 collided with a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Michael Albers of Clearwater. Both vehicles went into the ditch and down an embankment after the collision. Sherburne County officials say the snowmobile had no functioning brakes, which is considered to be a factor in the accident. |

Buffalo soldiers body found in Irag
A Minnesota soldier missing in Iraq after his Army helicopter crashed into the Tigris River on Sunday was found dead Thursday, apparently having drowned, his brother said. The body of Chief Warrant Officer Patrick D. Dorff, 32, of Buffalo, was discovered by military search crews shortly before 6 a.m., Minnesota time, said his older brother, Chris Dorff. He said they are waiting to get more information on what caused the crash. Dorff was one of two helicopter pilots who had been missing since Sunday, when they were searching for a soldier whose boat capsized during a patrol in Mosul, about 225 miles northwest of Baghdad. |

Cokato Resident Laurel Peterson Remembered This Week
Friends and family said farewell this week to a well-known Cokato area man. Laurel Peterson died January 18th at the age of 89. Peterson was Wright County's first building inspector until his retirement. He was also the building inspector for many years in the city of Winsted. Peterson was also known for his musical talent as a singer and instrumentalist, and volunteered for many years at nursing homes, queen contests, and other events. Laurel was also a past church board members, and a past president of the Cokato Historical Society. Funeral services for Laurel Peterson were held Wednesday at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church. |

Minnesotans have some bragging rights today for being able to forge ahead through some downright bitter cold. Morning lows dropped to the teens below zero, with windchills flirting with 40 below zero. Anyone needing to spend any length of time outdoors today needs to take every precaution to prevent frostbite, which can occur in just minutes on unprotected skin. |

Fire Guts Delano Area Home
Though details are still sketchy, officials report that fire gutted a home near Delano Monday morning. The fire at 5484 50th Street Northeast was reported around 10 AM. The Delano Fire Department needed assistance from at least three other departments in the area to control the blaze. Authorities report no one was home at the time the fire broke out. No one was injured in the blaze. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. |

Funeral Services Today for Former Wright County Commissioner Paul McAlpine
Funeral services were scheduled for this morning in Maple Lake for longtime civic leader and former Wright County Commissioner Paul McAlpine, who died Monday at the age of 79. McAlpine served in many governmental and civic groups, including the Maple Lake City Council, and for 15 years was a member of the Wright County Board of Commissioners. McAlpine also served on various other organizations including the Minnesota Board of Aging. Funeral services for Paul McAlpine were scheduled for this morning at 10:30 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Maple Lake. |

Frigid temperatures on Friday led to several schools canceling classes, while others started late for a second straight day. The arctic air drove the actual temperature down to -27 Friday morning at the KRWC studios, while wind chill readings were in the -40 to -50 range. Latest e-mail worm spreading fast
Network administrators were working to stop a fast-spreading e-mail worm that looks like a normal error message but actually contains a malicious program that spreads itself and installs a program that leaves an open door to infected computers. The worm called ``Mydoom,'' ``Novarg'' or ``WORM-MIMAIL.R'' - was replicating itself so quickly that some corporate networks were clogged with infected traffic within hours of its appearance Monday. Its mail engine could send out 100 infected e-mail messages in 30 seconds, experts said.

MPCA Meeting on Annandale & Maple Lake Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the permitting process on a proposed joint wastewater treatment facility for the communities of Annandale and Maple Lake. The proposed facility would replace the separate systems in both communities which are aging, and nearing capacity. MPCA officials will administer the meeting and will take questions from the public on the project. The meeting is scheduled for February 12th at 7 PM at the Maple Lake High School. Snow Blankets Area
A total of 8 to 9 inches of snow blankets much of central Minnesota, including much of Wright County after snow continued Sunday night through much of the day and evening on Monday. The new snow caused some driving problems in parts of Wright County, mainly due to added blowing and drifting, and some schools delayed the start of classes Monday. The weather cleared out overnight, and most of our region is digging out from the heaviest one-day snow seen in our region in some time. Cold temperatures are following the winter storm today, with wind chill readings in the -20 range. |

Winter Weather Woes
Old man winter continues his stranglehold on Wright County and the rest of the state today. The morning low at KRWC was -19, with windchills in the -30 to -40 range. Some school districts in the area delayed the start of classes today to give bus fleets a chance to warm up. Other activity cancellations or delays continue to come in, so stay tuned to KRWC Radio for complete announcements. As cold as it is today, forecasters say tonight could be even colder. Temperatures are expected to moderate somewhat this weekend. |
