Harverst Analysis Shows Some Surprises
With the fall harvest season now complete, agricultural officials are studying the harvest numbers. Wright County FSA Director Kevin Bergquist says many producers were surprised to find soybean crops producing lower yields than expected, while many corn crops were better than originally thought. Relatively dry, mild weather during the harvest period helped to save some money for producers in little, if any, outlay for crop drying, and less wear and tear on equipment.

Local National Guard Members to Depart For Middle East
More than 140 members of Monticello's National Guard unit are expected to depart today for active duty in the middle east. A community farewell ceremony was held Saturday at the Monticello High School Auditorium, followed by an early Thanksgiving dinner for the soldiers and their families hosted by the National Guard. The guard unit could be on active duty for up to 18 months.

Wintery Weekend Weather!
Forecasters had predicted a wintery weekend, and Mother Nature delivered, blanketing much of central Minnesota with 6 to 8 inches of snow, along with other wintery precipitation. The weekend storm came through in phases, with a sleet-snow mixture Friday night into early Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon, the real snow began, with most of the accumulation coming Sunday morning and early afternoon. The wintery weather caused some weekend cancellations, but outside of some minor accidents, and a few cars in the ditch, motorists handled themselves pretty well during the first significant winter weather of the new snow season. Two school districts in Wright County delayed the start of classes this morning, but for the most part, everything else was running on time. Forecasters say the weather should moderate throughout the week, making for better travel through the Thanksgiving holiday.
