Homemade Explosive Device Seriously Injurs Metro Man
A Twin Cities man was seriously injured by a homemade explosive device in a weekend incident in neighboring Sherburne County. Sheriff's Department officials say 26-year old David Malkerson of Coon Rapids and another north metro man were in a secluded area of rural Big Lake Township Saturday night where a number of appliances had been abandoned. Authorities say Malkerson had rigged a type of explosive device that he told his friend he was going to throw into an old stove to watch it blow up. When the man lit the fuse, it apparently went off prematurely. Malkerson lost his hand and had facial injuries from shrapnel. The other man rushed Malkerson to Elk River to the Sherburne County Government center where he received emergency treatment by jail officials. He then was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. The incident is still under investigation by the Sherburne County Sheriff's Department.

Maple Lake Community Marks 1-Year Anniversary of Josh Guimond Disappearance
Sunday, a Wright County community marked the one year anniversary of the disappearance of one of its young adults. November 9th, 2002 was the last time that anyone has seen 20-year-old Josh Guimond of Maple Lake. The St. John's University college student left a card game at a friend's apartment on the Collegeville campus just before midnight that Saturday night, and has never been seen since. Stearns County authorities are still treating the disappearance as a missing persons case, though Josh's parents are convinced that he may have been abducted. Anyone with any information in the case should contact authorities immediately.

The holiday season is one of the most difficult times of the year to convince people to donate blood, yet it can be a time of critical need. The next bloodmobile visit in Wright County is set for November 29th from 8 AM to 2 PM at the Maple Lake VFW club. To make an appointment, call (320) 963-5598, or be a walk-in donor.

Rep. Tony Kielkucki to Step Down
A state lawmaker from our region says he'll be stepping down later this month. State Representative Tony Kielkucki of Lester Prairie has confirmed that he will resign his seat November 24th to pursue other opportunities within state government. Speculation has it that the Kielkucki will take a post within the Secretary of State's office. Kielkucki is a 4-term republican who has represented a portion of Wright County throughout much of his time in St. Paul until re-districting changed his area of representation to the Meeker and McLeod county areas. A special election will need to be held to fill the seat. There's no word yet from the Governor's office as to when that special election will be held.
