Big Lake McDonald's Restaurant Destroyed by Fire A local fast food restaurant was destroyed by fire early today. Firefighters were called to the McDonald's restaurant on Highway 10 in Big Lake around 9 o'clock this morning. Crews found two deep fry vats on fire when they arrived. Attempts to control the flames with fire extinguishers failed, and the building was evacuated. Because of intense smoke, firefighters were forced to re-group and try to fight the blaze from outside the building. Assistance was called-in from neighboring towns including Monticello, but to no avail, as the building was a total loss. Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the McDonald's building only, though neighboring businesses may have suffered some minor smoke damage. No one was injured in the fire, which is under investigation. |

School District Voters Speak Out With Ballots Voters sent a message all across Wright County on Tuesday voting down all school district referendum questions, and changing the complexion of several school boards. In the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted district, both the operating levy question, and the construction proposal failed by wide margins. Voters in the Rockford and St. Michael-Albertville districts also said "no" to operating levy questions. Districts will now go to work on how best to handle budget concerns. KRWC will have reaction from several area superintendents in our local news. |

Wintery Mix! How quickly things can change! A mix of wintery weather is positioned over much of Minnesota today, including here in Wright County. The result is our first taste of driving in wintery conditions. Most of the precipitation is expected to be in the form of snow mixed with rain, but could change to a sleet or freezing rain over the next 12 to 24 hours. Motorists are reminded to slow down and brush up on those winter driving skills. Those who are on foot today should be very careful about slippery steps and sidewalks. Forecasters expect snow accumulations in the 1 to 3 inch range today through Tuesday. |
