Authorities Intensify Search For Theft Ring Members Authorities say they believe they're closing in on members of a large theft ring that has stolen tens of thousands of dollars worth of heavy equipment and recreational vehicles. The majority of the thefts have been in western Hennepin and Meeker Counties. Local authorities and the FBI are continuing their investigation. While some of the stolen merchandise has been recovered, most is still missing. Authorities say equipment dealers and the public should be very suspicious of persons trying to sell new or nearly new equipment or vehicles for a "too good to be true" price. If you have any information that may help in the investigation, contact your local sheriff's office immediately. |

Statewide Forums Study Impact of Budget Cuts on Kids A series of statewide seminars to explore the impact of state budget cuts on early childhood and education programs got underway this week. Advocates for Minnesota kids say they're becoming alarmed that some parents are choosing to go onto welfare because they can't afford the cost of programs. Other reports say some parents have chosen to let go of their health insurance coverage because they can't afford both the insurance and childcare costs at the same time. Ann Kaner-Roth with Child Care WORKS of Minnesota says the forums scheduled throughout the state for the next few months will hear testimony from parents, childcare providers, educators, and others who are affected by state service changes. The group will provide the information to legislators before the start of the next session. |
