Federal Money Coming to Battle Emerald Ash Borer
Minnesota will be getting 750-thousand dollars from the federal government to help control a just-discovered emerald ash borer infestation. Senator Amy Klobuchar says the money will be used to survey damage and cut down some of the initially-infected trees. She says the state may be asking for additional funds. Officials are asking Minnesotans not to transport firewood out of the area it's cut to avoid spreading the beetle. Minnesota is home to 900-million ash trees.

Runners include Wright County area law enforcement officers, court services, county attorney's office and social service employees. The runners will carry the Special Olympics Torch north to Highway 55, then east to the finish line at the Hennepin County border in the City of Rockford. All proceeds from the event go to the Minnesota Special Olympics.

Another Farm Reaches Century Farm Status
Another Wright County area farm has reached the Century Farm milestone. The James A. Moores family farm near Monticello established in 1903 has qualified for Century Farm recognition. To qualify, a Minnesota farm must be at least 50 acres in size and have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years. Recognized farms receive a commemorative yard sign, and a certificate signed by Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau officials, as well the governor. Century Farms will be recognized at county fairs as well as the Minnesota State Fair later this summer.
